The button must provide a location tone and extended pushbutton press feature as indicated. All operations and tone or speech messages must comply with the MUTCD. A raised/vibrating directional arrow must be incorporated as part of the pushbutton and vibrate for the duration of the Walk message. In cases of an exclusive pedestrian phase, the pushbutton must vibrate for the duration of the Walk message. The system must provide an auxiliary message during emergency vehicle preemption. Each time the pushbutton is pressed the user must receive an acknowledgement in the form of a single audible "tick" as well as single momentary vibrating pulse. In addition, an LED must turn on and latch until the walk signal is displayed. The LED must latch for all pushbutton stations on that crossing. If the pushbutton station loses power, the system must automatically place a constant call to the traffic controller. Field -test the operation of all features by activating the pushbutton and performing a visual check of the controller indicator lights , latching function, and a timing check of the pedestrian phase or phase extension. Equip intersection with a remote connection as indicated. If device is connected to the internet or network, obtain IP addresses from the District Traffic Engineer or Central Office IT. Provide all material, support, and coordination necessary to ensure th e remote access is functioning properly. Provide field validation that the APS device is properly working.
Install according to the manufacturer’s and supplier’s recommendations to provide for a complete and operational system. Install each preemption detector cable with a single home run of cable from the detector to the controller cabinet without splices. Review each detector location in the field with a Service Representative and a representative of the District Traffic Unit before installation to provide optimum operation. Coordinate with local municipality and emergency services to test the complete system including optical detectors at the intersection with an emergency vehicle. A djustment to the preemption system pending the field test is incidental.
