SECTION 608 - SIDEWALKS

608.01 Description This work shall consist of furnishing all m aterials for and

constructing sidewalks of either Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement , brick or concrete, and curb ramp detectable warning plates with truncated domes, in co nformance with this specification and all other applicable Contract Documents.

608.02 Materials, General All new Portland cement concrete sur faces shall have

protective coating applied in accordance with Section 515, Prot ective Coating for Concrete Surfaces. 608.021 Sidewalk Materials Materials for sidewalks shall meet the requirements specified in the following Sections of Division 700, Materials: Aggregate for Untreated Surface Course and Leveling Course 703 .10 B r i c k f o r P a v i n g 704.02 Preformed Expansion Joint Filler 705.01 W e l d e d S t e e l W i r e F a b r i c 709.02 Portland cement concrete shall be Class A and meet the requirem ents of Section 502, Structural Concrete. HMA pavement shall meet the requirements of Section 403, Hot Bi tuminous Pavement. New aggregate required to build new sidewalk shall meet the req uirements of Standard Specification 703.06(b), Aggregate for Base and Subbase, Type D . New aggregate for regrading existing sidewalk shall meet the requirements of Sect ion 703.10, Aggregate for Untreated Surface Course and Leveling Course. Standard compacting will be required for all sidewalk areas whe re six inches or more of new or disturbed aggregate is placed. Where less than six inch es is placed, compaction will be achieved by use of a plate compactor, hand tamp or other mea ns approved by the Resident. 608.022 Detectable Warnings Materials Detectable warning plate s shall be new cast iron, as manufactured by one of the manufacturers listed on Dep artment’s Qualified Products List of Detectable Warning Plates. Each plate shall ma tch the width of the ramp, unless otherwise indicated in the Contract Documents, and shall have a natural finish. Prior to starting this work, the Contractor shall submit to the Depar tment the name of the selected supplier, the manufacturer’s literature describing the product, installation procedures, and
