5-119 The surface of the concrete shall be float finished in accordan ce with the requirements of Section 502 - Structural Concrete and textured by applying a un iform light broom finish using an approved broom. An edging tool shall be used on the s urface edges of each section and a groover at the transverse centerline of each section. Th e exterior surface from the edging or grooving shall be finished to match the interior surf ace. Construction procedures shall be in accordance with Section 502 - Structural Concrete.
513.04 Crushed Stone Crushed stone shall be placed on granular material as shown on
the Plans. The finished slope shall be worked to present a smo oth and uniform surface.
513.05 Drains or Weep Holes Drains or weep holes through the s lope protection shall
be pipe of the size and shape shown on the Plans and shall be c onstructed of approved cast iron, tile, fiber or other material that will maintain its shap e and alignment during placement of the concrete. Care shall be taken not to cover the drains w hen installed, or when concrete is placed.
513.06 Method of Measurement Slope protection will be measured by the number of
square yards of surface area acceptably covered in accordance w ith the Contract.
513.07 Basis of Payment The accepted quantity of slope protect ion will be paid for at
the Contract unit price per square yard. Payment will be full compensation for excavating, shaping and compacting the slope prior to placing bedding and s lope protection and shall also include the bedding material. Excavating from original gr ound to the face of the slope protection will be paid under the appropriate Contract item. Payment for Portland cement concrete slope protection shall be full compensation for furnishing and placing all material, including reinforcement, a nd for all labor and other incidentals, including drains and weep holes, necessary to comp lete the work. 515.01 Description This work shall consist of furnishing and a pplying a protective
coating on concrete surfaces as called for on the Plans or as d esignated by the Resident in accordance with these specifications and the manufacturer’s pub lished recommendations. 5-120
515.02 Materials Materials shall meet the requirements of Type 1c penetrating silane
concrete sealers, and be listed on the Department Qualified Pro ducts List (QPL).
515.03 Surface Preparation On surfaces to be treated, all void s shall be filled with
mortar and the entire surface shall be dressed by dry rubbing t o remove form marks and blemishes to present a neat appearance. The concrete shall rem ain dry for at least 48 hours before treatment and shall be free of laitance, oil, grease, di rt, dust, curing compound or any other deleterious materials. All traces of dust shall be remov ed immediately before applying the silane sealer. The treatment shall not be done until at least 14 days after ca sting the concrete, or in accordance with the manufacturer’s published recommendations, a nd completed at least 24 hours before the treated por tion is opened to traffic.
515.04 Application The application rate and method of applicat ion shall be in
accordance with the manufacturer’s published recommendations. When practical, treatment of the concrete surfaces shall be com pleted before exposure to deicing salts. The temperature of the concrete to be treated s hall be above 40 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of application, or per the manufacturer’ s published recommendations.
515.05 Method of Measurement Protective coating for concrete s urfaces will be
measured for payment by the square yard or lump sum unit as spe cified, satisfactorily applied and accepted.
