619PERMANENT IMPACT ATTENUATING DEVICES

619.1DESCRIPTION —This work is furnishing and installing of permanent impact attenuating devices,

including all appurtenances and hardware, as indicated.

619.2MATERIAL—

• Permanent impact attenuating device as listed in Bulletin 15 that is crashworthy according to the 2016 AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) with either an FHWA eligibility letter or determination by an accredited testing laboratory stating that the product has passed all critical tests. Certify as specified in Section 106.03(b)3.

• Reflective sheeting from a manufacturer listed in Bulletin 15, as shown on the Standard Drawings , and as specified in Section 1103.05.

• Flat sheet signs from a manufacturer listed in Bulletin 15, as shown on the Standard Drawings, and as specified in Section 1103.04(a).

619.3CONSTRUCTION—

full depth embedment only, and as follows: Drive posts mechanically, unless otherwise directed by the R epresentative. Do not cut, batter, burr, separate galvanizing from steel, or distort the post. Driven post must be plumb. As directed, remove and replace posts bent or otherwise damaged. In areas where random boulders, hardpan, or bedrock are encountered and the post cannot be driven to grade, remove the post, then drill or excavate a hole as per manufacturer’s recommendation for full depth embedment. After the hole has been drilled, remove all fragments and soil from the hole. Provide containment if required to keep additional soil and rock fragments from entering the hole at no additional cost to the Department. Reset the post a nd backfill to the ground line, using No. 57 Coarse Aggregate and/or an acceptable embankment material, thoroughly compacted in maximum 6-inch layers with a handheld tamper. Apply reflective sheeting onto the space provided on the manufacturer’s impact head for delineation. Apply reflective sheeting onto flat sheet signs for a left clearance marker (OM-3L) and/or right clearance marker (OM-3R) to delineate a sand barrel array system. Attach the left clearance marker (OM- 3L) and/or right clearance marker (OM- 3R) securely to the front of the sand barrel array system, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, where traffic is required to pass to the left and/or right.

619.4MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT—Each

For the type indicated. The price includes tail end treatment when required. Reflective sheeting as specified in Section 1103.05 is incidental. Flat sheet signs as specified in Section 1103.04(a) are incidental. In areas where random boulders , hardpan, or bedrock are encountered, the price includes drilling or excavating holes, and backfilling to the ground line, using No. 57 Coarse Aggregate and/or an acceptable embankment material.
