TEMPORARY PAVEMENT MARKING TAPE SECTION 865

564 SECTION 865 – TEMPORARY PAVEMENT MARKING TAPE

865.1Description.

This work consists of providing and installing temporary pavement marking tape.

865.2Materials.

A.Temporary Pavement Marking Tape Section 1071.5

865.3Construction.

A.Submit a schedule of operations for the engineer’s approval before starting any pavement

marking work. Submit the schedule 2 -weeks before the striping application.

B.Perform pavement marking layout as needed to ensure accurate placement.
C.Clean pavement surface of oil, surface treatment, curing compound, dirt, grease, concrete

laitance, and other contaminants to a width at least 4 -inches wider than the marking to be applied.

D.Ensure ambient and surface temperatures and the relative humidity conforms to the

manufacturer’s recommendations. Confirm the atmospheric and pavement surface conditions with the engineer prior to starting work.

E.Place a quality control strip as directed by the engineer to demonstrate that the application

equipment is working properly and applying markings as required. Repeat the demonstration whenever there is a change in equipment settings or as directed by the e ngineer when the quality of the line being applied is in question. Authorization to proceed will be given by the engineer when the quality control test indicates conformance. If the application of the control strip is on the actual roadway, correct any application that is not in compliance with the contract.

F.Apply temporary pavement marking tape in accordance with the contract and the manufacturer’s

recommendations. Apply in accordance with the following provisions unless approved otherwise by the engineer.

1.Apply pavement markings in the general direction of traffic.
2.Apply at an application speed of no more than 10 miles per hour .
3.All necessary markings shall be installed before the end of the workday. Install the markings as

soon as possible after weather interrupts the work.

G.Remove existing pavement markings that conflict with new or altered traffic patterns as well as

any layout markings installed that detract from the overall appearance or function of pavement markings in accordance with Section 868.

H.Request engineer to perform retroreflectivity testing once pavement marking at the location is

complete.

I.The engineer will evaluate the pavement markings for defects after application. Correct pavement

marking defects as directed by the engineer.
